There are no records on any corgi being registered prior to the year 1979 when the first pembroke bitch was imported from Germany. Bred by Ms Jutta Erissmann, her name was Ynghariad-i CHERRY BLOSSOM (Ryslip Gorgeous John - Ynghariad-i Ylva) and her pedigree was mostly Kaytop/Stormerbanks breeding.

Subsequently, she was mated to the Austrian-bred male Colwyn Cadno (Lees Berry - Dusky Sun Rose of Kathla). The first Polish litter was born on December 15th, 1980 and consisted of 2 females and 5 males, both colours, some of them natural bobtails. That was the beginning of LISIURA kennel. Only one bitch, retained by the breeders, was used in breeding, namely Int.Ch. ZETYCA Lisiura. She became the first Polish-bred international champion and also European Winner 1982.
The next import was a male, Ch. Hashfan AMBASSADOR IN POLAND, bred in Denmark (Siggen's Quality Choice - Mols Bjerges the Hashfanny). Born in 1985, his pedigree was predominantly based on Siggen's line. In the year 1986 another bitch was imported, that time from the former Czechoslovakia. Ch. NIKE Moravia Mefistofeles ( Colwyn Gwydion - Sigma M.M.) was a foundation bitch for LIWANG kennel.Several imports were to come in the following years. The most infuential ones have been Pl.It.Ch. ADALOALDO della Selva Oscura from Italy, Ch, Allimac's MODERN LISIURA (natural bobtail) from Finland, Int.Ch. Siggen's ORFEUS ( natural bobtail) and Int.Ch. Mapleleaf SOUTHERN KNIGHT from the US.
At present there are usually up to 10 litters bred per year. The list of the active kennels, almost all of them relatively small ones, can be found under separate heading. However, one has to remember, that people, who own just one bitch and breed once or only occasionally, bring valuable contribution to breeding. Up to date (2005) Polish-bred pems have collected some 30 International Champions, as well as European Winner and World Winner awards. Dogs from Poland became foundation stock in Lithuania and Latvia, and contributed to breeding in some other countries, e.g. Denmark, Finland, Italy. One may find it of interest, that pems born with either bob- or short tails are currently marked with the word KUSA or KUSY added to their names.

The first cardi was imported in 1989 to LISIURA kennel. The sable bitch, bred in Sweden, was named Framework's AMANDA (Cardax Jeremy - Cardax Rowena). She produced just one puppy, when bred to another import from Sweden, Int.Ch. Smultronbackens DOUGLAS ( Cardax Vivaldi Jubilee - Smultronbackens Arabella). The first cardi puppy, named FIRST CARDI Lisiura was born on December 14th, 1993 and eventually exported to Denmark to became DK.Champion and father of several litters in Denmark and Sweden.

Two more bitches were imported - Int.Ch. Cardax BECKY (Cardwyn Hynoon - Antoc Marcasita) from Sweden and Ch. Birkebakken's HOPEFUL HAVANNA ( Faarup Fuzzie - B. Dominique Delicious) from Denmark. Only the latter produced one litter of 4 females to Smultronbacken's Douglas.
After that somewhat disappointing beginning the new start came with the establishing of Z ANEGDOTY ( 2000), FEST (2002) and COTROVERSIA (2002) kennels. Recently interest in this breed have been strong, and quite many dogs in all colours have been brought into the country from Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland and Holland. The most influential import is US.Pl.Ch. Yardican US Westwyn LEO from the United States.
Polish-bred cardis founded breeding in Czech Republic, and recently have been exported to Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia and US. Up to date (2005) Polish-bred cardis have collected some 9 International Champions and 2 European Junior Champion tittles.
In recent years there have been about 3 litters bred per year, yet soon there are going to be more with several enthusiastic newcomers planning to start breeding. All dogs are expected to be either DNA-tested or proven PRA- pedigree-free before breeding. |
